Hello and welcome to Episode 11 of the D. F. T W podcast. My name is Michael Head, and this has been one heck of a week different yet very, very good. The reason it's so different is I've had to take on a new position to help my family during this season. I currently I am the principal and the lead science professor, as well as the dinner shift chef for a brand new home school academy out of Houston, Texas called Head Home School. And it is so much fun. It really, truly is. We're trying to make the best out of everything that we can. Why? Because that's all we can do. And we need to know that you can only do what you're able to do during this time, and that is most likely for all of you. That's gonna be good enough. And so I am just thankful for you guys. I'm thankful for those of you who you met the challenge that I sent out a few weeks ago, and I was able to send some of you ah, prize, and it was fun to see and the videos of you guys getting those and being excited about it. And so thank you for that. It was super fun for me to be able to gift so many of you with that during that challenge, as must I thank you for using this and sharing it with all your friends. I just truly believe that God can and continue to use this podcast in so many different ways. And I just want to say thank you for sharing it with those that you love. On today's episode, I really want to share five different things that stood out to me in this previous week. There were so many things happening in our world, our culture, on the news, on the radio, all over the thing. But there were five things that really stood out to me, and I just want to share those with you and maybe the land. Maybe they won't maybe want to make any sense to you. But my prayer is that one of these will land with one person and possibly helped change their moment there Day or maybe their life. Number five is a quote By LISA TURK HEARST. It says feelings are indicators, not dictators. And here's what that means our feelings. They tell us where our heart is in the moment. But that doesn't mean they have any right to dictate our behavior. We're much more than the total of all of our feelings and completely capable of a little gift called self control. See the feelings that we have right now those are validated and you need to be okay, and you'd be okay with inviting them to the table with you. Be okay with how you're feeling. We just cannot let it dictate our life. We just need to make sure that we're not living in it, that we're not living in these feelings and living in these emotions all the time. And they're not controlling us. And we have self control. And at the same time, we have to validate it and understand that it is there also for those with kids and family members who may be feeling very scared, afraid, confused. Those emotions and feelings need to be validated by you as a parent. Let them know that you can hold that for them, that they can be scared. Ask them. Open ended questions about what they're feeling at this time, so that they can try to express what is happening inside of them. And really, what you're doing is letting them know that you are listening. Number four it is this song home, My soul. It is so good. It is called the Blessing Song And it is written by Kari Jobe and Cody Kearns. I just want to read these lyrics to you from this song titled The Blessing. May his favor be Upon You and 1000 Generations and your family and your Children and their Children and their Children. Then it says, may his presence go before you and behind you And besides you all around you and within you he is with you. He is with you in the morning, in the evening, in your coming and in You're going in your weeping Andrew Rejoicing, he is with you. He is for you and man, that is perfect for right now where we are. When I heard this song this week, I was so excited. I want to play a little clip from that song right here. Eyes for you. He is so for you. And where this song came from was in numbers 6 27 out of the Old Testament, and this is a part of Aaron's blessing. And it says What will look at number 6 26 it says, May the Lord lift up his countenance towards you and give you peace. And then, in number 6 27 it says So they shall put my name on the Israel lights, and I will bless them. Notice the promise. I will bless them. Not I might bless them. Not it could happen. Not wink wink. No, God says I will bless them by putting God's name on the people, emphasizes the source of the divine blessing of God's name. Here's what that means. If you're a Christian, you're wearing his name and that it should be warned still, that everybody will see and believe even through this social distancing, people can see Jesus in you. And he is for you. Number three. These are the times that we should speak the unspoken to those that you love. When I heard someone say something very similar to this this past week, and rarely do we fully appreciate someone until they're gone or they're leaving. I am learning that there is only one true antidote to this syndrome. And that is making sure the people that you love and admire the most know without a doubt what they mean to you. Because, man, it happens so fast. Life gets going. And then one day we're staring into the slide show of our past and we're wondering where is everyone? What just happened? Why didn't I say anything? And that's when regret may start to slip in. We didn't know our future before Cove in 19. And now it just seems more real than ever that what in the world is our future even gonna look like after this? We are going to make it through and it is going to be a little bit different saying the unspoken to those we love the most can be huge. Right now these unspoken words would be something like the words I love you. I forgive you. I am sorry or even thank you. Please don't assume that the people you love know how you feel. Tell them over and over and over. Never stop thanking them, apologizing for giving and loving them. Life is getting away from all of us and we right now have the opportunity to say what you need to say, because it may not ever come again. Will you be brave enough to let the words come flying out of your mouth or arena? Let another day go by risking it will never be said it all. We got to be present and we got to be alive right now. In these moments, be grateful and loving to everyone that God has put in our live be brave and speak up Number two. Some people dance in the rain and some people get wet. That is a quote from a Bob Marley song. And here's what that is saying. Often we will perceive an experience as super unpleasant as we're in right now, automatically trying not to feel it. And so we change everything about it, and we change it to it, being an inconvenience and injustice. And we get irritated and possibly really angry about it. And I love what Victor Frankel said. He put his survival of the Holocaust down to choosing his own attitude, saying this, the last of human freedoms is the ability to choose one's attitude in a given set of circumstances. We're always the masters of our own experience, and we can choose how we're going to interpret that experience. Some choose to feel the rain. Some don't realize that they have the choice and they're just getting wet. Bob Marley, in this quote the quote. Some people dance in the rain, and some people just get wet. He is promoting mindfulness, being in the moment and welcoming whatever it brings. He is singing about the difference between consciously living your life and simply being swept along by what happens to you. Ultimately, it's about being grateful for whatever is happening to us in the moment right now, which can lead to a deep sense of connection, fulfillment and even joy. And right now, God may be asking us to pause and for us to refocus what we thought 2020 was gonna look like. I mean, I'm sure we had all these plans and these things that we were going to do. We have these great dreams, and now we have a choice toe. Have a completely new outlook on our life, and it can still be so, so great. We have the choice right now to dance in that rain to dance in this moment to be present right now where we are and make it the best we can and refocus all of our attention. Or we can just allow the rain to pour on us and get us wet. And number one something that stuck out to me this week is the repair is much more important than the rip. So my dog, Lucy one day was limping so, so bad and I couldn't really figure out what was wrong. I was hoping it wasn't her hips. I just did not know what was going on. And I looked on the bottom of her, right, Paul and she had a huge, nasty rip on it. And so I quickly went, got some supplies and medicine, and I started to repair the rip. And if I didn't repair the rip than it would have been a lot worse over time. And so what we've got to know is that the rip or the pain at the time consume so brutal, and we must be reminded that the repair is what last longest. And that is what is more important when my kids at night, when they come in and they're scared, they are freaked out. Maybe they had a bad dream. Maybe they heard something. But when they come in in the moment, they they're feeling all these scary emotions and all these things in this in this fear. And what we'll do is we'll just hold them, pray with them and then they leave so much better than they did when they came in. Why? Because our presence gave them peace. And the disciples in the Bible were absolutely no different. You see, so many times that they were scared. They were freaked out in Jesus, would show up in his presence, gave them peace, and they would walk out of that situation completely different than when they walked in. Maybe right now you're feeling down and out and scared and those things make sense. And we have got to know that Jesus is with us right now. We are in it, and so is he. His presence has the power to unlock the peace in us when we can realize that he is in these moments. He is here right now during this and we recognize his piece. We're going to leave these moments these days. Different then how we came into it. We came into this for me. Scared, upset, nervous not knowing what's going on and because I have allowed Jesus to come in, I have allowed him into this place. And just like so many of you are, we're going to leave these times and leave these days with peace. And it will happen as long as we're willing to meet and to be with him and allow the Prince of Peace to dwell with us. Thank you for downloading and listening to this episode of the Don't forget to write podcast. It was so great to share these five things that really stuck out to me this week. And so I would love it if you could share with me who you are seeing be really heroes in your area. Man, it could be a mom. That is corruption. It it could be a doctor, a pastor.
